Bocas del Toro Travel Info

Isla Bastimentos is a wild, magical place, full of incredible natural amenities. The Villas at Red Frog Beach are privately owned villas, which are managed by the Red Frog Management company. These villas are fully furnished private houses and are essentially "self-sufficient". We have a wonderful staff that can assist you in booking tours/activities or transportation to/from Bocas Town.

Checking In

(All information and pricing is subject to change at anytime, please contact us for updated information. Red Frog Beach is not responsible for third party services)

There is no front desk or lobby at Red Frog Beach. Please ensure that you have connected with our Villa host and advised them of your arrival time to Isla Bastimentos (Red Frog Marina). For day of arrival assistance, call 6559-8970

There are 2 recommended options for boat transportation to Red Frog Beach:
1) AIRPORT PICKUP - For $8 per person you will be picked up at the airport by our representative who will arrange your boat ride to Red Frog Dock, as well as notify Red Frog villas that you are on your way. While waiting for your boat, you can use the rest room, small lounge, and do some shopping.

2) NO AIRPORT PICKUP - Get boat to Red Frog from Tropical Markets or Jampan Boat Dock
A) Walk or take a yellow cab to Tropical Markets; they will call you a Jampan boat, call Red Frog to tell them you are on your way, and you can use the rest rooms, small lounge, and do some shopping while you wait.
B) Walk or take a yellow cab ($1 per person) to Jampan Boat Dock. You can take one of their boats (see schedule below) and they will call Red Frog and let them know you are on your way.

Water taxi - Thre are many boats that provide transportation to Isla Bastimentos. This 10-minute beautiful boat ride typically costs about $5.

From the airport in Bocas, you can take a taxi to the Bocas Information Center along the waterfront ($1 per person).

Red Frog Villa Guests can also organize an airport pick-up service for $8 per person payable in cash on arrival. Please contact Daniela Calvo-Pons at redfrogvillas@gmail.com to coordinate this service.

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT VILLA GUESTS ARRIVE AT RED FROG NO LATER THAN 7 PM (earlier is better to avoid checking in at dark)
We have no recommended boats coming to Red Frog after 6:30 pm. You can find your own boat at the public boat dock by Chou Kai hardware store. Also Bocas Paradise Hotel may be able to assist you in getting a boat to Red Frog. However, Red Frog cannot make any guarantees about pricing or quality of service. Also, these boaters may not be able to call Red Frog and let us know you are coming, so no one will meet you at the dock when you arrive. It is critical that you be met at the dock, as the villas are 1 mile away from the dock. Again, we very strongly recommend that you use option 1 or 2 above for the best experience. Jampan boats are run by trained operators, and have up to date safety equipment, lights, and rain covers as well as guaranteed pricing.

Golf-cart rentals:

  1. ON-SITE rentals for $49/day for one cart or $40/day for 2 or more.
  2. PRE-PAID rentals for $35/day or $199/weekly with additional days at $30/day.

Activities/Tours:

To coordinate any tours or activities during your stay at The Villas at Red Frog Beach, please contact our Tour Coordinator at redfrogtours@gmail.com.

Conservation Fee

Red Frog Beach requires that guests are responsible for EXCESSIVE electric charges during their stay which varies depending on how much you use. Your rental price includes a standard amount of electricity required to run the villa, but if you go over the allotted amount, we have to charge you for the excess. We generate all the power on the island and so we ask our guests to pay for their electric usage as a conservation tactic. We have found that guests use about 60% less electricity when they are responsible for paying for their own excess usage and so we adopted this policy in order to conserve resources. We hope you understand this policy and support our efforts to be good to the environment which makes Red Frog such a special place.

Transportation

Around Bocas Town

Taxis are available all over Bocas Town. They are clearly marked yellow trucks. Taxis are a great way to assist you in getting around town if you are arriving to Bocas with heavy luggage from the airport or the Almirante water taxi. However, if you are in town to enjoy the sites, the people, and the laid back ambiance, we suggest walking. Walking is the best way to catch the spirit of Bocas Town as the main street is along the waterfront.

From Bocas Town to Isla Bastimentos & Red Frog Beach Rainforest Resort

One of our representatives can greet you at the Bocas del Toro airport when you arrive. To get from Bocas del Toro to Isla Bastimentos and the Red Frog Resort you can take a water taxi. There are several independent water taxis in Bocas Town and they are easy to find, prices vary. Enter at the public dock on the south side of Bastimentos, next to the Red Frog Marina. Your Villa Host can meet you there and you will go by golf cart to the Red Frog Villas (10 minute ride)

Around Isla Bastimentos & The Villas at Red Frog Beach

The Red Frog Villas are situated on the hillside up from Turtle Beach. There are 30 villas completed and 12 in various phases of construction. The road in the lower villas is paved. The lower villas are closer to the beach and the higher villas are further to the beach but have more of an ocean view. All are a golf cart ride away from the Red Frog Beach, Red Frog Beach Activity Center, Turtle Beach, the public dock, marina, SPA, Kayukos Restaurant and tours, Bocas Bound Hostel, and Bastimentos Sky zipline canopy tour. There is hiking access to North Beach (Polo Beach), Playa Larga and the national park and rainforest. The villas are built in an area that was once a pasture, and are surrounded by rainforest. For specific transportation needs such as getting luggage to the dock or getting to your villa at night, you are welcome to call resort management and they will arrange ground transportation for you for a small fee. There is a $20 service charge for transportation after 10:00pm. Gratuities are welcome by our resort service team.

NOTE: Because The Villas at Red Frog Beach are still under development, construction is ongoing around the resort premises however; we are doing all that we can to ensure that the construction should not interfere with your visit. Our rates are heavily discounted due to the ongoing construction.

Passports:

A valid passport is required for entry into Panama. Passports from the USA must be valid for at LEAST 3 months from your scheduled date of departure from Panama. Entry requirements vary depending on nationality- please ensure your documents are in order.

WiFi internet

WiFi internet has been installed in all rental villas; however signal/speed strength sometimes varies and internet outages are unpredictable. We do have internet most of the time, but we cannot guarantee internet service or refund in any way for technology difficulties. (IT support is hard to come by on an island off an island).

Panama City:

If you would like to organize any transfers or tours in Panama City, we highly recommend Carlos Carvallo as a guide/driver. He can be reached at: ccarvallo48@gmail.com or by phone: (+507) 6780 2290. He offers an excellent Panama Canal/Lake tour which can include a BBQ lunch on an island.
